Waterfront dining in Dunedin
Fryatt Street sits right on Dunedin’s city waterfront, and Harbourside Grill makes the most of the location. From the dining room you look out over the harbour while plates of fresh fish, shellfish, steaks and plant-based food arrive from the kitchen.

Why Fryatt Street works for a harbour meal
The restaurant is a short walk from the Octagon, close to the Steamer Basin and the working port. That means you get real harbour activity outside the windows, not just a postcard view. Inside, the space has a warm maritime and industrial feel that suits both a quick lunch and a longer dinner.
Parking is available on surrounding streets, and the waterfront walkway makes it an easy stop if you are exploring the CBD on foot.
Choosing the right time of day
Midday and afternoon: Brunch plates, lunch favourites, coffee and scones run from our day menu. Harbour light is at its best through the middle of the day, and tables tend to turn over steadily without the weekend rush.
Evenings: Shared plates, grills and seasonal specials come from the night menu. Thursday and Friday service runs until 11pm, with Saturday matching that schedule. Sunday wraps up at 9pm, which suits an earlier waterfront dinner.
Weekends: Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days. If you are planning waterfront dining for a group, book ahead through our Reservations & Contact page. Walk-ins are still welcome when tables are free.
What to order on the waterfront
Seafood is the natural fit here. Blue cod, shellfish and daily fish specials pair well with harbour views. Meat eaters have steak and grill options, and the menu lists vegetarian and vegan dishes throughout the day.
The bar pours local craft beer, Emerson’s on tap, Wither Hills wine and a rotating tap list. Check current offers for weekly drink and food specials before you visit.
Functions with a harbour backdrop
Birthdays, work events and wedding receptions often book the upstairs or private areas. You get the same waterfront setting with flexible food and beverage packages, and many functions run with no venue hire or minimum bar spend. Call (03) 477-1950 or email [email protected] to talk through options.
We are open seven days: Monday to Wednesday 10am to 10pm, Thursday and Friday 10am to 11pm, Saturday 9:30am to 11pm, and Sunday 9:30am to 9pm.
